Software Requirements

CyPics installation may require that some Microsoft components are installed on your computer depending on your operating system.

If you have Win 2000/ME/XP you should return to download CyPics.

The options for installing the components are follow, our support staff are available to help should you have any problems.

Just Do It

Download a single self installing executable which will automatically install any missing components that are required by CyPics.

This installation package contains: Installer V1.1, MDAC 2.1SP2 & DCOM 95 V1.3. Each of these is considered by Microsoft an operating system component and cannot be uninstalled once installed.

Test your System

Microsoft Component Download

The Microsoft download references are given below for each of these components, 

Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC)

T he Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) provide support for Microsoft Access Databases. CyPics requires MDAC Version 2.1 or later. See the note below for MDAC 2.6 which does not include the MS Access drivers (Jet).

MDAC is available for download from the Microsoft site at:

If you want MS Access 97 support in CyPics we recommend that you use the earliest possible version of the MDAC components (2.1). MDAC is treated as part of the operating system so you cannot just reinstall one version and install another. The safest way to go back in versions is to reinstall your PC from scratch!

MDAC 2.6 Advice from the Microsoft Web Site

If you are installing MDAC 2.6 and also need to install the Jet components, you can download a redistributable version of Jet 4.0 Service Pack 3 (Jet40SP3_Comp.exe). Jet40SP3_Comp.exe is a complete set of Jet 4.0 components for Microsoft Windows 95, Microsoft Windows 98, and Microsoft Windows NT version 4.0. Jet40SP3_Comp.exe gives you the complete Jet 4.0 components up to Service Pack 3 (SP3). This is the same version of Jet that ships with Microsoft Windows 2000 and Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me).

You should only install Jet40SP3_Comp.exe when Jet 4.0 is not already installed by your operating system, an application, or Microsoft Access Data Components (MDAC) 2.5 Service Pack 1 (SP1) or earlier. Before installing Jet40SP3_Comp.exe, you need to install MDAC 2.6 or later.

Microsoft Distributed Component Object Model for Windows '95

Windows 95 users require Distributed Component Object Model (DCOM '95) as a prerequisite to installing MDAC. DCOM ships with Windows '98, NT and later. MDAC will not install on Windows '95 without DCOM '95 already on a system.

Microsoft Access 97 Support

MS Access 97 support now requires the installation of DAO support to allow CyPics to manipulate the database structure.

Windows '95 Note

Internet Explorer 3.02 or greater on Windows '95

CyPics uses the latest help system from Microsoft (HTML Help) which is Web page based. Unfortunately on Windows '95 this requires Internet Explorer 3.02 or greater to be installed. Internet Explorer 3.02 is on your Windows '95 CD.
